Homemade Hippie Body Lotion

Homemade Hippie Body Lotion

1 cup Jojoba Oil

1/2 cup Coconut Oil

1/2 c beeswax pastilles

1/2 tsp Vitamin E oil

20 drops any essential oil

  • Mix oils and wax in a glass jar or large glass measuring cup. Put this jar into a saucepan and fill pan with water, being careful not to get any water into the jar. Heat the water until wax/oil are melted, stirring occasionally.
  • Let jar cool to room temp. Stir every 15 minutes to emulsify. After thickened, add vitamin E and essential oil.

I make this in a pint size canning jar, and keep it in that jar. Then I don’t have to worry about the messy process of transferring the lotion into a different container. You can use any oil that your prefer as long as the measurements stay the same. I have  used grapeseed and almond oils. I’m trying to come up with the perfect combination for an eye cream next. I buy the organic oils and beeswax from Mountain Rose Herbs. I also do a alot of online ordering for Iherb. If you use the coupon code HIF798 you will receive a $10 discount and free shipping!

Need an anti-wrinkle cream? I am posting about that very soon!

Hi Jane! Once you get the hang of this is takes 5-10 minutes. If you make it in the same jar you’re storing it, you have zero dishes. I love zero dishes 🙂

where do u get the beeswax?

    • April 3, 2012 at 7:03 PM

A lot of candle making stores carry beeswax also. You can buy it in big chunks or in small pastilles (balls/granules). I like the pastilles because they melt really fast, but you can use any form of beeswax. I would absolutely love to find a beekeeper that would give me fresh beeswax!

Does this leave oil stains on clothes/furniture etc. I have been making my own lotions and am sad to have ruined some items due to the oil content of the lotions.

I have been using this for a while now, on my whole body and have not noticed any staining on clothing…

How did you get your lotion so white? Mine is definitely yellow. And oily. 😦

    • January 10, 2014 at 8:04 PM

Sarah, if it is yellow that is a sign that you are using great quality oil. No worries

I think yours was yellow because you used yellow beeswax and might have used the white ones…

How thick is the final product? Is it more cream like or thicker v. thinner lotion?
